Ehning among the all-time great<\/p>

The entire podium of the Aachen Rolex Grand \nPrix was German, but the real winner was \nMarcus Ehning riding Stargold who was in \na state of grace. With this success, following \nthose of 2018 (Pret a Tout) and 2006 (Nolte\u2019s \n \nK\u00fcchengirl) Ehning has joined the club of three- \ntime winners along with Hans G\u00fcnter Winkler, \n \nFritz Thiedemann, brothers Alwin and Paul \nSchockem\u00f6hle and Ludger Beerbaum. Now that \nBeerbaum has announced that he is retiring \nfrom the sport, however, Marcus Ehning is the \nonly one who can challenge the record number \nof victories, four, shared by Nick Skelton \n \nand Piero d\u2019Inzeo. However, the 49-year- \nold German also becomes the live contender \n \nfor the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping \nahead of the next Grand Prix at the Calgary in \nSeptember. Again this year Aachen provided \na great show with as many as four previous \nwinners in the Grand Prix jump off: Ehning, \nDaniel Deusser (2021), Philipp Weishaupt \n(2016) and Brazilian Rodrigo Pessoa winner as \nmany as 29 years ago. And no less exciting was \nthe Nations Cup won by Switzerland after 21 \nyears thanks to the decisive double clear rounds \nby Steve Guerdat and Martin Fuchs.<\/p>

von Bredow-Werndl and Dalera again<\/p>

The dressage at Aachen provided an opportunity \nto test the form of the riders expected to take the \nlead at the Riesenbeck European Championships \nin September. Once again the reigning European \n \nand Olympic champion, Jessica von Bredow- \nWerndl was unrivalled and with her superb \n \nTSF Dalera BB won everything, the Grand Prix, \nGrand Prix Special and Freestyle, ensuring \nsuccess for Germany in the Nations Cup. Aachen \nalso confi rmed the competitiveness of Nanna \nSkodborg Merrald and Blue Hors Zepter. \nThe pair formed by the Danish rider and her \n15-year-old Oldenburg gelding had been a \nrevelation, but they have now become formidable \nopponents, also in terms of European medals, \nespecially for the two British Charlottes. At \nthe 5* CDIO Charlotte Dujardin presented a \nsteadily developing Imhotep, while Charlotte \nFry rode Everdale, a stallion who incidentally is \nImhotep\u2019s sire. Everdale, however, is Fry\u2019s second \nhorse in addition to Glamourdale with whom, \nafter dominating the World Championships at \nHerning, she will be competing in Riesenbeck in \nan eagerly awaited face-to-face contest against \nJessica von Bredow-Werndl and TSF Dalera BB.<\/p>

Yasmin Ingham\u2019s first time<\/p>

Great Britain had already had three team wins \nat the CHIO Nations Cup in Aachen, but never \nan individual success. This has changed now \nwith the reigning World Champion, Yasmin \nIngham, with Banzai du Loir achieving a \nhistoric win for British eventing and also for \nherself. In the lead after the dressage and third \nafter the show jumping, in the cross-country \nfinal Yasmin Ingham and her French sorrel \nwere (together with the German Christoph \nWahler and Carjatan S) the pair that got the \nbest result, with only a 1.60 time penalty. This \nmade the difference against Michael Jung, \nriding FischerChipmunk FRH, who added a \n2.80 time penalty in the cross country and \nfailed by only 0.1 to achieve what would have \nbeen his third victory in Aachen, following his \nsuccesses in 2016 with FischerTakinou and 2011 \nwith La Biosthetique Sam FBW. With his second \nplace, however, the German champion secured \nthe Nations Cup victory for Germany. \nIts 11th since 2007, i.e. since the WEF – World \nEquestrian Festival in Aachen was born in the \nwake of the 2006 World Equestrian Games.<\/p>
