The instructor’s role involves\r\nresponsibility when teaching underage\r\npupils, especially if in competitive\r\nsports. The instructor is responsible for the\r\nactivity he requires the pupils to perform, and\r\nhe must insist that each student wears the\r\nnecessary protections such as riding helmets,\r\nbody protectors when required as well as\r\nsuitable footwear.\r\nThe instructor must also enforce that each\r\nstudent respects the rules, high standards for\r\nthe sport as well as absolute respect for the\r\nhorse.\r\nThe instructor is responsible for the underage\r\npupil not only during the competition, but also\r\nfor any behaviour held by the minor in the\r\nperformance of the equestrian sporting activity\r\nand training.\r\nEvery instructor agrees and signs a code of\r\nethics and must comply with federal principles.<\/p>

“The instructor represents an<\/strong>\r\nirreplaceable figure in the sports and<\/strong>\r\neducational training of the riders,<\/strong>\r\nespecially the younger ones. The<\/strong>\r\ninstructor\u2019s contribution is essential<\/strong>\r\nand supports a qualitative growth of the<\/strong>\r\nrider not only for the technical aspect<\/strong>\r\nbut also for the pedagogical one.”<\/strong><\/p>

The Instructors’ Code of Ethics states that the trainer\u2019s figure must operate in compliance with universally recognized ethical and moral principles, maintaining a behaviour that should be of example.<\/p>

The Instructor Code of Ethics states:<\/strong><\/p>

\u201401. comply with the law, federal\r\nregulations and the rules of society;\r\n\r\n\u201402. not to use prohibited substances and\r\nto ensure the pupils are not using\r\nthem on themselves or their horses;\r\n\r\n\u201403. notify the parents of any situations of\r\ndiscomfort perceived regarding the\r\nminor or known even indirectly, such as\r\nthe use of drugs, even recreational ones;\r\n\r\n\u201404. be an example for the pupils especially\r\nif they are minors, maintaining a state\r\nof physical fitness suitable for any\r\nsporting context, as well as being an\r\nadequate role model for a sporting\r\nand competitive environment;\r\n\r\n\u201405. treat everyone equally, paying the\r\nsame attention and dedicating the same\r\ntime, respect and dignity to both the\r\nmore talented and the less gifted;\r\n\r\n\u201406. respect the stages of growth of each\r\nstudent and each horse and put his\r\npsycho\/physical well-being before\r\nany victory or result, whether it\r\nis a team or individual one;\r\n\r\n\u201407. the training and level of the competition\r\nmust respect the physical, sporting\r\nand emotional development of the\r\nstudent and of the horse and must\r\nbe based on the needs and interests\r\nof the student and the horse;\r\n\r\n\u201408. being up to date on how to recognize and\r\nmanage social difficulties and bullying of\r\nthe pupils or contact experts in the field;\r\n\r\n\u201409. an instructor must avoid situations\r\nof embarrassment with his own\r\nstudents, especially if they are\r\nunderage, inappropriate language\r\nand harassing or provocative\r\nbehaviour, even if caused in whole or\r\nin part by the students themselves;\r\n\r\n\u201410. an instructor should never share\r\na hotel bedroom and\/or horse box\r\naccomodation with a minor who is\r\nnot from his own family unit. In the\r\nevent that adults and children\r\nhave to share a bedroom, hotel room and\/\r\nor horse box accommodation always\r\nmake sure that you have had the written\r\npermission of the person exercising\r\nparental authority over the minor.\r\n\r\n\u201411. avoid as much as possible physical\r\ncontact with the minor, and when it\u2019s\r\nnecessary for the purpose of teaching\r\na technique, it\u2019s always preferable to\r\noperate in the presence of witnesses\r\nor of parents. However, physical\r\ncontact must not be invasive or\r\nresembling harassment in any way;\r\n\r\n\u201412. be aware of any health conditions,\r\nfood intolerances, ongoing injuries and\r\ncurrent therapies for the young riders;\r\n\r\n\u201413. participate in training initiatives\r\norganized by FISE on the topics\r\nof prevention and repression of abuse\r\nand harassment;<\/p>

This means that the figure of the instructor is not limited to the one who teaches how to ‘ride a horse’, but rather represents the personality that supports the student to grow in the equestrian world, helping him grow by teaching respect for sporting rules and for horses, undisputed companions. The instructor is also the one who teaches and demands compliance with these rules.<\/p>
